Report: Chicago's Homicide Was Far Higher In The past

I see Breitbart has an AWR Hawkins bylined report pointing out that Chicago’s homicide rate was much higher in the past.

That is true. Chicago has never been forced to turn in an official homicide total of 1,000 or more, but Chicago was a much larger city than it is now. As noted here a few days ago, the “skunk cabbage patch on Lake Michigan” has actually lost a million residents since 1963, when jobs and workers began leaving for lower tax and few regulations venues. The high crime rates brought on by gun control campaigns and laws have only hastened the process.

This char, with data from the FBI Uniform Crime Report, documents the Windy City’s homicide rate since the 1870’s, when Chicago was a part of the “Wild West:”

In 1960, Chicago reported 263 murders for a rate of 7.5 per 100,000. population.

By 1970 the media reported murder total was 744,for a murder rate of 22.1

In 1980, Chicago was bleeding population, but the murder the media reported murder total was 1,078 for a homicide rate of 36.1.

In 1990, the media reported total was 957, while the official total was 851 homicides for a city that had lost 800,000 residents since 1960 of 30.6 per 100,000 of the remaining Chicagoans.

In 2000, the city reported 631 murders to the FBI, for a reported rate of 21.3 per 100,000.

In 2010, the City reported 432 of 577 media reported murders homicides, for an official rate of 14.9 and an unofficial murder rate of 19.4per 100,000.

So obviously, it is true that Chicago did have a far higher murder rates in the past.

And thanks are due to Mr. Hawkins and Breitbart for the informative coverage of the poster city for gun control.
