Thanks to the incessant publicity tagging military patter rifles as murder weapons, 2016 was a terrible year for rifles, with 374 murders chalked up to rifles, 175 of those due to what the gun ban lobbies and their adherents call “assault weapons.”
175, plus or minus ten is not a large number of murders in a country whose demographics and economic factors show should have approximatley 3,500 murders a year.
But here in the real world, counterproductive gun laws, gun controls, have driven the 2016 murder total to 15.070
Of those 15,070 murders, 11,004 were committed with a firearm. While the type of gun in 3,077 firearms facilitated murders is “unstated” and therefore unknown to the FBI, medical and arrest records suggest approximately 2,800 of “unstated’s” were committed with handguns, giving us a total of 9,905 handgun facilitated murders for 2016.
Of those, approximately 7,860 of 9,905 handgun related murders were committed with stolen handguns.
Obviously, we have a problem with stolen handguns.
Yet the gun ban lobbies and their media echo chambers are providing tens of thousands of inches of column space and hundreds of thousands of hours of broadcast time to demonizing military pattern Sport Utility Rifles that in normal times were seldom used to facilitate any sort of crime.
And, not incidentally whose efforts to ban guns have raised the murders from 12,253 in 2013 to 15,0070 in 2016; with even larger increases coming year by year according to gun control campaign’s history of driving up crime and violence rates.
