Bloody Chicago: McCarthy Claims Crideit For Weather Effect

Amusingly, I see Chicago Police Commissioner Gerry McCarthy claims credit for a reduction in homicide numbers entirely due to a brutally cold winter.

Chicago Redeye lists 225 homicides by victims name and address as of July 31, 2014. In 2013 it reached 225 homicides on July 15.

The five most violent months of the year are barely started, and the official homicide rate is on track for 425 homicides. That total will depend on two imponderables. Weather – and the deterrent effect of the very small number of Chicago residents with Concealed Carry Weapons permits..

Whether McCarthy realizes it or not.
