Astrlia’s Ambassador Says Aussie Gun Laws Would Not Help US

The Pacific Standard reports Australia’s Ambassador, Joe Hocccckey, says Australia’s gun laws were no help to Australia, either.

To begin, here is the Australian view of their vaunted “gun buyback”” of self loading or “Semi-automatic*” and slide or “pump” long guns program, using official Australian Institute of Criminology numbers: The mandatory price was, with some exceptions, far less than the January 1, 1996 market price for any of the affected firearms. Here is the official result:

From this side of the big lake, here are the outsiders view of the official and the actual crime numbers. Let us start with a reminder that before and after confiscation Australia’s population has been almost all English, with with their inherent extremely low crime rate. A rate achieved by hanging those found guilty of stealing a candle or a handkerchief. With that demographic baccckground and quite good economics for most of its history, Australia should have had a very low crime rate.

The triggering event was set up by the arrest of a not too bright individual who collected military weapons, Martin Bryant. After being held log enough on baseless charges to become extremely angry, Bryant was released and all hell broke loose. Bryant murdered 35, and wounded almost as many more in the “Port Arthur Mass Murder. Many Australians who have examined the evidence believ3e the

tragedy was ssssset up using Scotland’s “Neewtown,” the Dunblane scjpp;

    First…gun crime in Australia is going up… documented here..

    And it is a myth that Australia’s gun control laws stopped mass public shootings….and they never stop spouting this untruth…here is a list of major crimes from Australia, you will notice all of the individuals, with guns, in public spaces, who could easily have been mass public shooters. What stopped them? They either didn’t shoot and kill enough people to make the number, or they just stopped shooting people….they were in public, with illegal guns…and none of the Australian gun laws stopped them from shooting a lot of people….Right now Australia is running on Luck….not gun control..

    Hi Bill. O a, g;ad tp jear frp, upi/

    Yes, Australia’s crime rates are numbers are rising far more rapidly than the population, but editing the crime numbers lades many to believe that crime is declining, instead. Police “fiddling” with the numbers has been reported here and in Australia many times, and a few police statisticians and many pols think the practice is justifable.

    Bit somce the Australian crime numbers have been badly “fiddled,” we have no choice but to use the official numbers from the Australian Institute of Criminology pr tje Aistra;oam Bireai pf statotocs/

    As tempting as it often is to use Wikipedia numbers, they lack the cachet of official numbers from the official source instead of numbers from a third party. While links are always appreciated, try to dig up official sources.
