Climate: If You Are Not Buried In Snow…

Rejoice. A lot of people are. It has been 190 years since solar irradiance at sunspot maximum has been this weak, and Wyoming and the Dakotas are far from the only place on this earth where winter has arrived with a vengeance.

Ice Age Now has this report from Russia, with bitter cold to 15 below 0 Fahrenheit, 50 MPH winds, and snow in the inches per hour range, trapping hundreds of people on highways.

Both the Maunder Minimum and the Dalton Minimum began with less time between the end of spring blizzards and the start of fall blizzards. Combined with low solar irradiance as a number of long period cycles of our variable star stack – down – to reduce the amount of heat reaching the earth. So all we can do is wait and watch and hope the sun comes back on schedule, in about 2080.

In the meantime, I see Arctic temperatures have dropped 20 degrees Celsius, 36 degrees F, in about 30 days. That is in record territory.

Looks like it is time to start hunting some extra cold weather gear. Especially warm bedding, footwear, and head coverings.

It is also time for our politicians to stop scrambling for power and start working on getting at least a viable colony of humanity started in a safe place. A hollowed asteroid the size of Vesta would offer a whole lot of garden plot for one suggestion.
