Connecticut “Keep Your Standard Capacity Magazines, If You Register Them”

The Hartford Courant reports Connecticut’s “compromise gun law” whose specifics will be released later today will allow owners of Sport Utility Rifles and standard capacity magazines with greater than ten rounds capacity can keep them – if they put themselves on a list of gun owners by registering their magazines.

Briefly quoting the Courant report linked above:

Under the legislative leaders’ grandfather clause for high-capacity magazines, owners would have to submit to what lawmakers believe would be the first state registration procedure ever imposed on magazines, an informed source said Monday. The way it would work, owners would have to declare officially how many magazines they possess with a capacity greater than 10 bullets.

Under the new system, the high-capacity magazines – for example, a 30-round magazine – could never be loaded with more than 10 bullets outside the home, with one exception: The large-capacity magazine could be fully loaded at a licensed shooting range, the source said.

Those limitations would apply no matter what other permit the owner of the magazines possesses, such as a permit to carry a pistol, the source said.

In addition to this idiocy, gun owners would face “tighter” gun registration requirements, universal background checks, the historic precursor to tyranny, and be forced to present a “certificate of eligibility,” a permit to buy ammunition.

In addition, the Federal restrictions on felons with guns would be “improved” with a State registry for those convicted of certain crimes.

I have often criticized Connecticut’s mental health system – or more accurately its lack of an adequate mental health system. The empty bucket pretending to be a mental health system is the primary reason Adam Lanza was not in custody for his mother’s and the public’s protection. If the State had an adequate facility for maintaining custody of severely disturbed individuals, I would suggest those responsible for this decomposed kettle of fish be immediately committed.

Since the State obviously lacks the capacity, I can only quote Jesus. “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.”
