April 5: What Do We Know About Travon Martin We Did Not Know Yesterday

The Florida demonstrations continued, the FBI is talking to witnesses, and the Florida prosecutor has started work. All three are trying to develop a case against George Zimmerman; who remains in hiding. And I cannot say I blame him.

George Zimmerman’s defense team has hired a high profile defense lawyer. Obviously, Zimmerman and his lead lawyer feel there will be a need for a defense. Given the increasingly noisy demonstrations and the interest from several groups who want to dispense with a trial and find a tree; that is probably wise.

Don Linehan at The Wagist has a better 911 call timeline, that apparently clear up some inconsistencies in the media reporting.

For those interested in the most precise timeline I have seen yet, there is that and quite a bit more at the link.

Shelby Steele has a thought provoking item at the Wall Street Journal, “The exploitation of Trayvon Martin. While I do not necessarily agree with Mr. Steele, he makes some good points.

But the bottom line is that the Trayvon Martin case is increasingly moving off the media radar. I found only one story on FOX News this morning; a Hannity clip from Zimmerman’s defense team insisting on his innocence.

CNN says the 911 tape is under review; and a brief interview with Zimmerman’s lawyer.

Otherwise, the media activity seems to be on the openly “progressive” side, with many items on the net of interest only for the lynch mob attitude of the copycat “writers.” In their eyes Zimmerman is guilty of stalking and murdering a young black man – and no matter what the evidence says that will be their story. Of course. They are getting paid to post it.

There is a great deal of money behind the effort to crucify George Zimmerman. The ultimate aim is to ban guns. Starting with repeal of Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine laws. The next step will be to use the inevitable rise in violent crime rates as an excuse to repeal Concealed Carry. And finally, to use the surge in homicide as an excuse for another 1968 style pogram against guns and gun owners.

The word is out that Soros and his allies are behind this campaign. Which means it will continue until it succeeds or it is obvious that it fails. It must fail – if America is to survive.

I really wonder about the probability of this sequence. It helps that I live in a state where concealed carry (of any sort, but it happens to be shall issue with all other US localities’ licenses being recognized) is quite new, 2004, and where we have to assume we have a duty to retreat and our Castle Doctrine was judicially nullified (the “Missouri Plan” which Missouri uses for upper level court seats is truly horrible). Nonetheless, at least in the culturally Southern SW part of the state we have a strong self-defense culture.

I suspect it depends on whether the prosecutors use the absence of these two doctrines abusively, plus there’s a big difference between removing two rights most gun owners will never need and removing something that many gun owners use every day. The latter will be a lot harder, I’m sure.
